We the North East Women Entrepreneurs Association (NEWEA), formed in the year 1994 – is registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 for performing various welfare activities to upgrade the technical, design and skills of the women who are village artisans, entrepreneurs, handicapped persons and disabled of the society through demonstration and application of appropriate science and technologies.

Since its inception in 1994, the organisation is engaged in the development of women and youth to undertake various income generation projects, viz., hand-loom and weaving, skill-development, handicraft, jute and food products and support through establishment of marketing networks with local products for national and international markets apart from creating various skills through self-help groups. The objectives of the organisation include economic empowerment and large-scale employment of economically weaker members of society through technical and vocational training. We also provide physical, social, emotional, psychological and economic support to aged trough old age homes, day-care centers and mobile medical facilities.

We are also engaged in flood relief activities – distributing food, clothing, baby food, utensils etc., as well as skill-development programs in liaison with the National Small Industries Corporation, Directorate of Industries & Commerce, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Food Technology & Preservation, NEDFI, MSME, Sericulture, Corporate houses and NGOs in organizing and participation in international and regional meetings, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, fairs on state, national and international policy issues/problem sharing experiences.
